The Miners Died Because there is NO God!

Religious extremists love to spout off in their self-rightousness that god did this or that for this or that reason. Yeah right. As if they know something more than anyone else. If they really know something about an earthquake or mine cave-in or other disaster, why can't they predict it in advance rather than pompously arm-chair quaterbacking after the fact? They can't predict anything because they don't know anything!!!

Anyone can make up nonsense about why god did this or that because it's impossible to prove right or wrong. It's impossible to prove right or wrong because there is no god so god is not going to come down to earth to correct anyone.

It's time for rational people to start pointing out the obvious. When random events in nature occur and people start bleeding on about, "how can a merciful god allow this to happen?", we need to shine the light of reality on their superstition and let them know stuff happens naturally because there is no god! Earthquakes, floods and hurricanes are not caused by god, they are just natural events. Good people die in natural disasters just like bad people becaue the disaster isn't coming from a god and isn't choosing sides, it's just nature. Duh!

Here are some examples of the inane absurdities spouted by religious wackos:

Pat Robertson said god gave Ariel Sharon a stroke because Sharon gave away Gaza. So Pat is claiming to know not only that god did this but even why god did it. If Pat has some inside info from god, why is he no more able to give a warning than anyone else?
"He was dividing God's land and I would say, 'Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the (European Union), the United Nations or the United States of America.

-- Pat Robertson

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said god gave Katrina to New Orleans because black people weren't taking care of themselves.
"Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it's destroyed and put stress on this country. … Surely he doesn't approve of us being in Iraq under false pretenses. But surely he is upset at black America also. We're not taking care of ourselves."

-- New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin

Jerry Falwell said AIDS was god's punishment for gays.
AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.

-- Jerry Falwell

And my favorite........

Thomas Prince preached that the 1775 earthquake was god's next move because Ben Franklin's lightning rod was interfering with god's preferred form of expressing his displeasure.
In America the earthquake of 1755 was widely ascribed, especially in Massachusetts, to Franklin's rod. The Rev. Thomas Prince, pastor of the Old South Church, published a sermon on the subject, and in the appendix expressed the opinion that the frequency of earthquakes may be due to the erection of "iron points invented by the sagacious Mr. Franklin." He goes on to argue that "in Boston are more erected than anywhere else in New England, and Boston seems to be more dreadfully shaken. Oh! there is no getting out of the mighty hand of God."

On that last item, it's pretty remarkable the layers of superstition built up around lightning and storms. At that time, christians truly believed lightning was a direct spanking from god and that wind and storms and weather in general were the direct work of demons and angels. That age of religious stupidity died fairly quickly once Ben Franklin proved the electrical nature of lightning and proved that lives could be saved with lightning rods. It funny how we don't learn much in school about the depths of religious stupidity regarding weather prior to Ben Franklin's famous kite experiment. Religion has a long history of being on the side of primitive stupidity and then wiping the record of that stupidity out of the history books!!!

Religion is More Dangerous Than Communism

Bolivia is turning towards communism. I used to think changes like this were bad. They are bad because communism is just a form of dictatorship and dictatorship is bad because it means one person or group of people gets to have unchecked power over everbody else for no legitimate reason. But there are far worse things happening in world of politics today.

The really dangerous evil in the world today is religion and the turning towards theocracy! Most of the wars and the torturing of innocents in the world have been caused by religion. Religion teaches that it's okay to believe in nonsensical superstition and therefore religion corrupts and destroys the mind. In fact, I would argue that mental atrophy caused by religious superstition is what creates the mass stupidity that allows communism to spread in the first place. Religion teaches, "don't think, just believe" and, "you are evil by nature and sacrificing yourself would be good and noble." Would anyone really fall for communist propaganda if they weren't already conditioned by these two religious principles?

The one and only good thing about communism is that at least it keeps religious superstition under control.

These days, when I read about a country turning towards communism I think to myself, thank goodness they aren't turning into a christian or islamic theocracy!!!
